Zappos was founded in the year 1999 by Nick Swinmurn along with Tony Hsieh as well as Alfred Lin, who invested $2 million by their investment firm Venture Frogs. However, the brand was officially launched online in the year 1999 as “ShoeSite.com.

In the year 1999, the name of the company was changed from ShoeSite to Zappos after “zapatos,” the Spanish word meaning “shoes.

In the year 2000, Venture Frogs invested in the business as well as Zappos moved into their office space.

In the year 2001, Hsieh came on board as co-CEO along with Nick Swinmurn.

Over the next 3 years, Zappos doubled their annual revenues, hitting $840 million in gross sales.

By the year 2007, the organisation grown and included handbags, eyewear, clothing, watches, and kids’ merchandise.

In the year 2008, Zappos hit $1 billion in annual sales.
